Once you’ve decided on LVT, there’s one more choice: click or glue-down. Both give a beautiful, long-lasting floor. The right one depends on your subfloor, your room and your budget.
Click LVT
Click LVT planks lock together along their edges and “float” over an underlay. Because they’re quick to install, labour costs less.
- Easy and quick to install
- Cheaper to fit than glue-down
- A little more forgiving of minor subfloor imperfections
- Thicker product, so slightly more expensive to buy
Glue-down LVT
Glue-down (or “dryback”) LVT is thinner and bonded directly to a smooth subfloor. The product itself is cheaper, but it takes more preparation to fit.
- A cheaper product than click
- Needs a flat, smooth subfloor — often a levelling compound first
- More expensive to fit than click
- Very solid, quiet and ideal for herringbone patterns and large areas
Why the subfloor matters
Glue-down LVT will show every bump and dip beneath it, so the subfloor must be properly prepared. We’ll check the subfloor and tell you what’s needed before you decide.
Upstairs rooms and straightforward spaces suit click. Kitchens, bathrooms and patterned designs often suit glue-down.
